This may seem irrelevant, but...
I had a dream over the summer that I knew how to fly a broom.
The feeling of flight was overwhelming: the chilly wind blowing through your hair, the crispness of the orange leaves, and the smell of Autumn.
Then I crashed in the forest, my broom snapped, and I was lost.
I woke up mad because that was one of the best dreams I had ever had.

If witches could fly around on brooms everyone would be one sweetie.

Who the hell wouldn't want to fly?

There was a flying potion that witches used to use. It consisted of nighshade and some other toxins....the result were vivid hallucinations that made them feel as though they were flying.

I wouldn't try it though.

truthfully the using of the broom stick has its roots in a planting/springtime ritual. At springtime after the fields have been planted all people interior the village (folklore varies on the precise information) could deliver at the same time interior the fields to make possibilities of one style or yet another and the girls folk of the village could "journey" their brooms leaping throughout the sphere. It replaced into concept that the better they flew/leaped the better the flora could enhance. And the greater effective the arrival harvest could be.

Lilly is right. it was a hallucinogenic mixture that was applied to the wrists that made them feel like they were flying.
The brooms were still used to clean and purify the sacred space to be used.

I think it depends on the length of the broomstick and the girth of the witches.
