Scientific notation always has a number less than ten multiplied by 10 raised to some power.

In this case, the number multiplied by 10^4 is greater than 10. So you must move the decimal point 2 places to the left to get 1.456. This effectivley divided the number by 100. To make it right you need to multiply it by 10^2 so you now have 1.456 *10^4 * 10^2 = 1.456*10^6.

The previous answers are wrong.

Take 10 to the nth power to be written as 10^n; then,
145.6 = 1.456 x 10^2, so then,
145.6 x 10^4 = (1.456 x 10^2)x10^4 = 1.456 x 10^(2+4) =1.456 x10^6

yah, the "garh" dude is right, it's already in notation! and, he was right again because 145.6 x 10^4 does equall 14,560,000.
i'm not really sure what you want to see as an example, but i will give you some:
1,000,000 = 1.0x10^6 12,345,678,910= 1.2345678910^10
1.987432x10^4 = 19,874.32
and so on... you can also do it with negatives!
1,000,000x10^-3 = 1,000 1.160000x10^-8 = .0000000116

hope it helps!
