I left the key in the ignition of my 1950 flathead and burnt out the coil so i replaced the coil, points and condenser and now its backfiring. I checked the timing and its correct so I have no idea what could be wrong. Do I have to take the dist. out of the engine and adjust the points or something? Or could there be something wrong with the dist. or something inside the engine? Thanks

You might have gotten the dwell wrong. Also maybe plug wires wrong. I'm not sure if there's a vacuum or centrifugal advance or both in those, but either one could cause backfiring. Also, not disconnecting the vacuum advance when you check the timing will get it way off.
And the coil probably burnt up because somebody removed the series resistor in the 12v feed to it.

You absolutely have to set the points. You will need a feeler gauge and a helper or remote starter switch to do this procedure.

if you only replaced those three things and didn't fiddle with the dissy settings-you must have the point settings wrong-usually retarded if backfiring

If the timing is right, there is probably some internal damage in the distributor.
