Ground hogs can be a pest that returns year after year whether you get rid of one or not. First insure what you have are ground hogs and they are not restricted in your area.

To help ensure that you rid of these and others do not return I would try this. I have seen this work in the past.

Find some calcium carbonate at your local drug store or ask them if they can get it. This is the same stuff that used to fuel miners lamp when they worked underground.

Find the entrance to the ground hog den and pour some in. Once this is done pour water on top of that. Be careful not to breathe this as the gases coming from this are toxic. Cover the hole so that the gas do not come your way and works downwards.

In a couple of days check your cover and remove, fill in entrance and see if you have anymore ground hogs. Bet not, good luck.

The easiest way i've found to rid your lawn of groundhogs is to take peanut butter and put on an ear of partially cooked indian corn. You then slide the corn on the end of an opened coat hanger and hang it on your clothesline. The reason this works is the corn has a chemical reaction with the metal on the clothes hanger and produces a sound of very high frequency that the groundhogs strongly dislike. The only thing the peanut butter is good for is just in case you have some bird seed to put on it, it makes a nice bird feeder. Hope this helps with your problem

Are you sure they are ground hogs? Bigger than a cat, and about 10-20 pounds? If so, shoot them.
If you mean ground squirrels, chipmunks, or gophers, then get a killer cat.

Place whirlyjigs all over your yard. The vibration that they make go down into the ground and drive the groundhogs away.

I believe the human way of going about this would be to declare him a savage, destroy his land and food, slowly obliterate his culture and history, and ultimately force him to either live out the rest of his days in the desert or fully integrate into your society.
