Don't worry. I was around 4 weeks when I went for my first ultrasound thinking I was much further along as I am also very irregular. Absolutely nothing showed up on my ultrasound...not even a little black dot. The doc had me come back in three weeks later and there, plain as day was my little bean!

It's probably just entirely too early to show up on the u/s. Don't fret just yet(yes, I know that's easier said than done). Just wait a couple of weeks and go in for a repeat...I'm sure your little one will be grown enough to see by then.

That's a really tough one! Well for starters he should know if hes a doc! And from my own exp yes it is really early to see anything really I was 5 wks when I got my ultrasoung with my 2nd and all we saw was a peanut that looked like it had been steched out a little, and from what you saw thats totally normal... Im sure all is ok but if you have a dought go see another Doc if you have the resourses to do so ,and explain what the first had said to you, if not maybe tell the one you saw in detail what your concerns are about that visit and let him explain everything in a more detialed way
Good luck and congrats

I had a ultrasound at 5 weeks ( i had cramps and was also spotting, also my fifth pregnancy) they could only see the sack they tried to see baby with an internal ultrasound and also could not see. I was told to go back the next week for another ultrasound to my relief the baby was there with a heart beat and now I have a five week old healthy baby boy. I suggest you ring your doctor and see if you can have another ultrasound in a week or two.

depending on the type of machine used, a baby may not be visible until 8 or 10 weeks. At four weeks there is baby, but a very small on, no more than a dot on the monitor. I fell when I was 6 weeks, and all I saw was a small blur on the screen, and now I have a four week old healthy boy. Don't be frightened, as scary as it was, the baby isn't big enough for a good show yet. Good Luck!

I had a sono at 5 weeks with this one and only saw a little black sac. I went back 2 weeks later at 7 weeks and saw the bean and heartbeat. I wouldn't worry to much. 4 weeks is very early to see anything. Did they schedule you for another in a few weeks? If not I would ask them to. Good luck.

Go back to your doctor and TELL him to explain what he said to you. I've never heard of someone getting an ultrasound that early unless it was a "high risk" pregnancy, since there really isn't much to see. If anything it certainly wouldn't look like a fetus at that early of a stage. I think your doctor could use some people skills though.

That was really insensitive of him not to explain what that meant. I wondered at first why you didn't ask, but it was probably because you were startled by what he said and kind of didn't want to know the answer. Call him first thing tomorrow and ask him what that means.

Call the doctor, he should have explained the whole thing better. I'm sure you're fine, or he would have said something.
