The answer to your question is yes. Just factor out a sqrt(x^2)=|x| from the expression inside. You are not even using any properties of the logarithm.

You need to include more spaces in your question, or Yahoo cuts it off.

In any case,

ln(sqrt(x^4 + 2x^2)) = ln (sqrt(x^2(x^2 + 2)))
= ln (sqrt(x^2)sqrt(x^2+2))
= ln |x|sqrt(x^2+2).
