Does the story of Adam and Eve has a sublime message in it that seems to indicate that women are inferior to men? If so is it because the story was presumably written by men?

Eve was made from the rib: close to Adam's heart, at his side. This shows that men and women are equal and should walk side by side and recieve the same dignity and love and consideration.
Also, it's been posited that God recycled the only useable part. Adam was a rough draft.

Not sure, but if Adam and Eve were real incest must have taken place between their kids to carry the race on, maybe thats the hidden message?

I do not endorse Incest.
Also I Know it was just a story and not meant to tell of an actual happening.

Oh yes there's a message and its not sublime.
The current story was reedited by males as the Jewish society had changed from a matriarchal one to a patriarchal one. So therefore males are supposed to be Superior to women.
In the original version ADAM had another first mate that was made the same way as him from the dust of the Earth and he called her Lilith. but she proved to be to much like ADAM . meaning to independent and questioning as to why she had to do things ADAMS and Gods way . ADAM asked God God for a different Mate that was more tractable . God removed Lilith from the GARDEN to the outside of it where SHE meet other tribes(the first time this is mentioned in the bible). And God put ADAM the sleep and took one of his ribs to make the new mate for him . Having been made from a part of ADAM she was more to ADAMS liking and didn't question her place like Lilith did.

No, Eve was created from one of Adam ribs.......... Also they are not inferior to man, They are suppose to walk side by side with man. The only difference is that God told Eve because of her sin-full ways and her obedience to Satan that she is now suppose to obey her husband and to serve man but not as a slave but as an equal. You should read your bible more......................... And stop listening to those false interpretations...........

whatever way you read the story in no way does it infer that women are inferior to men

he took it from adams side. not above or below him.

maybe a few other religions ought to consider their women to be of equal standing to men

i wonder what religion you are !

I once heard a sermon on how the rib was used to signify the way man and woman complete each other, and how both sides are equally important to one another.

Yeah, men wrote it, and men and women believed it ever since!!! They should've written something like 'women should be the breadwinners and men should go and play golf'. Now THAT would have been a religion to follow.

.I think that is bull and that there is no subliminal message. Look at it this way every man that is on the earth came for the womb of a woman. In other words, you wouldn't be asking this question if it weren't for us women

Jesus treated women, the disabled, the downtrodden, tax collectors, prostitutes and the poor as human beings. That's the message of the bible. We are all human and should be treated as such!
