Mushrooms are not the result of sour soil. They are there because they are one of nature's decomposers. So you must have dead organic material in your lawn. It could be something underground like dead tree roots or above ground like an unhealthy thatch layer. Since they are part of nature's life cycle it's best to just go over your lawn with the back of a garden rake and just knock them over. The decomposition part will not be effected if you do that. Then when everything is decomposed they will just die out because their food source is gone.

Treat your lawn with an application of Lime. This will sweeten the soil and prevent the mushrooms (fungi) from growing.
