For what you want to do with it, this is an excellent computer. you have PLENTY of memory which will help the speed of the computer. The hard drive is big enough to hold plenty of games and music. the graphics card is ok but you say you don't need good graphics. and the DVD burner is a plus if you want to burn movies or music cd's. Great choice for what you want to do.

Depends on the price! Sure, it will easily run those apps you mentioned. The Intel Dual Core chips are the best chips around at the moment in terms of battery life and not giving off too much heat so the Dell might be worth a look. 1gb of ram is still a lot. 2gb will be more than you will ever need. Possibly pointless. Get a lower spec and save some cash. Your choice.

The straight scoop. You want to run a piece of crap crippled virus magnet Microsoft 32 bit OS on a screaming 64 bit processor system.
That is like buying a Lamborghini and using it to just go three blocks to get groceries...
I would grab one of the free 64bit screaming 'Nix systems, that also have 64 bit games, and apps! Then, the benchmarks roar, exceeding the M$ on a 2.8!
Yes, it burns dual layer DVDs. Has all the IM stuff. And, great for music mixing or playing!
Best is http://ubuntu.org and they'll mail you the CD for FREE!
Hey, Linux is what Microsoft.com, Hotmail.com, MSN.com, and Redmond Campus run on 45,000 computers and 400 development lab systems! And, it runs all the Aruba routers and firewalls at Microsoft, worldwide!
I run all that on old 400 to 1100 Mhz donated systems!

Defenatly enuph - in fact it is more then enouph.
For what you say you want here is the min (many people would say you NEED more- but not really, it only is a WANT)
Processor - pentium IV
Memory - 512DDR2 or 768DDR
Hard Disk - 80GB Hard Disk
Optical drive -CD Burner Drive
Display - 15" Wide Screen
This has some "wants" - but is is sub $600 I think.

Sounds like a "WOW" machine.
Especially for what you want to use it.
Watch the price, though.
I wouldn't pay more than $500 (U.S.) if it is used,
Maybe $800 new.

This is BRILLIANT, but if you only need to do the stuff you say the Dell should be fine.
Where did you find that laptop, it is great?
