Maybe because as oppose to the current administration belief, war is not the only solution for everything. Or maybe because leading by example is the only way to lead.

None, The United States doesn seem to care less about The UN, otherwise the war in Iraq would never have taken place

There is probably no reason if we keep the likes of the current administration around.
But, if we decide that someday we would like to have influence in another country without dropping bombs, we could go to the UN as part of our diplomatic effort.

Because there are some other countries in the word, because countries used to talk its differents in U.N instead of launch preventive attacks to other countries.
