Let me give my camel to them and there are 8 camels. Then the half of it is given to the oldest son, which is 4. Then the half of the oldest son's is given to middle one, which is 2. Then the half of the middle son's is given to the youngest one which is 1. 4+2+1 is 7 and the one which is not distributed is mine!!

In answer to the question:

"You guys find this simple, yet I'm pretty confused.
How is four half of seven?"

I think the point is that the eldest son must get at least half of the inheritance, since 3 is less than half he is entitled to 4 camels, but I agree that the question is worded poorly.

Since half of the camels would mean 3.5. Let's assume the eldest gets 4 camels, the second one gets 2 camels and the youngest gets 1.

Since the youngest should get atleast 1, therefore the middle one should get atleast double and the eldest gets the double of middle one.

you are solving the following equation (where i=inheritance and a = amount first son gets)
i = i/2 + i/4 + i/8
mathematically this cannot be as the equation tells that i = (7/8)i.

kill one brother because the first brother cant get half of 7 because you would have to cut a camel in half.
