MARK MESSIER, 'The Messiah'.

No other player in my mind had to deal with the pressure of being captain, in New York of all places and accomplish what he did and did it so gracefully.
Most people don't realize what it takes to have that kind of success in New York City.

Yzerman and Messier were captains that played with heart. Gretzky and Lemieux were more like captains that led by example. They were the ones to count on to score a goal if you're down in late third period.

Mark messier was a great captain, but I have to give the nod to Steve Yzerman. When you say his name, you just picture that big C on his chest, him fighting through all the pain and struggles, leading his team to the cup

Steve Yzerman, he was the captain for Detroit for 20 years. He led his team to 3 stanley cups, and in his early years as captain led them through tough times. Along with his leadership he was also a very good player. In the top 10 in several categories

I would have to say it is a toss up between Mark Messier and Stevie Y. Man they were both great captains. Tons of heart. The players they captained would die for them. Much respect!
