My mom's of African american, Native american, and Irish descent. My father's of Irish, British, Russian and Polish descent.

I look like some fair skin black girl. [Besides the option of 'other'] Does it seem neglectful, obvious, that I check the african american box on an application?

I think that you should check whatever culture you identify most with. As a person of mixed heritage myself, that's usually what I do.

Also, I don't think this is a stupid question. I still can't quite understand why you shouldn't be able to select multiple boxes! Culturally, the modern world is much more interconnected than ever before and, especially in America where these questions seem to matter most, I think people would be hard pressed to find anyone completely of one ethnic heritage (including hispanic people who technically are mesh of spaniards and native peoples).

You sound like you're more white than the African or Native but it still doesn't exclude you from being African or Native. I think those boxes are unfair. I'm French, German, & Irish and I check the "other" box and write on the side "Cajun" because I'm very proud of that heritage & to know that my grandparents were abuse in school for speaking "French", they were beaten & thrown out of school if they didn't speak English well. It's so unfair & now my generation hardly speaks the language at all. It's a dying culture & that saddens me, because we're a unique & beautiful culture. That being said check which ever box you feel. You can check the other box & list all of your descents then maybe, those options won't be listed anymore. Be proud of all your heritage, it sounds like a melting pot all in one person.

First Irish, British, Russian and Polish are nationality not race. Race is not the same as nationality. If I am not mistaken those 4 are considered Caucasian. So you are a mix of African American, Caucasian, and Native American. And from my understanding that would make your African American and that is the stronger gene plus it is the minority. If I am wrong please forgive me. If you are not comfortable with that click the "other" box if it is available. Or do not respond at all.

You seem to be more caucasian than anything else. You could just as easily choose Native American over African American.

Although, I did know many people in high school that when applying to college chose to take advantage of their minority heritage, however minute. It's exactly why quotas are bad.

No but I am sure u are a beautiful girl! Embrace who u are, if your African American features are more obvious, than I would check the box.

They need to include a box that simply states American. Unless of course you were born in another country.

it depends. if its for financial aid for college or something where you can benefit from then do it. other than that check whatever you want. on my home loan it states that i am hispanic because i look hispanic and i have a hispanic sounding name people think that i am. but i am not. i realized a long time ago that it really doesn't matter because its not like anyone is gonna sit there and verify anything.

from the list it looks like you're Caucasian. but it really doen't matter what you put. no one's going to come after you for saying you're one thing instead of the other. just check what ever box you want to.
honestly you could change it up every once and a while if you wanted to.
