Okay this is just what I assume. The sky obviously isn't just empty space there are a bunch of particles floating around like oxygen and other things in the air. Well, they're mostly see through still they manage to reflect light that is interpreted as blue by our eyes. Down here I guess since there are less layers and there's lights reflected off of other surfaces and sources and such so we don't get the blue we get other images, like trees, grass. In space it's black because there are minimal amount of particles floating about so it doesn't reflect back as much. Since space goes on forever the light goes on forever as well and there is nothing to bounce off of and come back. When our eyes sense that there is no light/color coming then it interprets it as black.

The atmosphere. All the various gases between the stratosphere and the earth give the blue color look. As you go higher the altitude you leave the atomosphere and hence it keeps getting black , therfore moon does not have atmosphere and thus everything is black if seen from its surface

Athmosphere: the air acts upon sun rays, absorbing all other frequencies and leaving only blue rays pass through.

the blue is due to sunlight being refracted in the earth's atmosphere, that doesn't happen in space or at night.
