Go to a mechanics shop and get them to hook up a scanner and reset the code. Some auto parts stores may do this for free. Because if your abs is sending a code and they find it means a part is bad, and they tell you....They're hoping you'll buy the part from them.
One problem you may find though is they may not have the old OBD1 hookups because you have a pre 1996 model car.
The only other thing I can think of is you left a wire to the battery off and didn't realize it when you reconnected the new battery

ABS light might be a coincidence, I would start by checking the fluid level in the abs master cylinder. It should be either in the passenger side by the firewall or the Drivers side by the Headlight.
If you still have a problem with your light being on, I would probably not even fix it because they are expensive to repair and you will still have regular brakes anyway. even if you were to take the whole abs system out.
