I've always wondered what would happen if I, being female in the U.S., went to an Islamic country (i.e., Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, etc.)or what would happen to any woman from another country visiting an Islamic country and did not wear a birka or covering. Would I get killed/executed, arrested? Do the birka rules apply only to Islamic women? Or do they apply to non-citizens, non-Islamic women?

What would happen if a women from an indigenous country that does not value modesty came to America and did not wear clothes at all? Probably they would be respected for being different by a lot of the population, but if a sexual crime were perpetrated against them, they would not get much sympathy because they did not value the norms of the society or people just assume that societies that do not value modesty do not value the idea of women having a choice as to who does what with their bodies.

LOL! wow...the media sure is misleading, huh? I'm from New Orleans, I'm muslim, and I'm over here in Jordan...I can't be in New Orleans now cuz of the hurricane...but anyway, no, you don't have to wear a "burka" or cover your hair or anything...i dont think you have to do that in any muslim country except maybe Saudi Arabia, but still, im not even sure bout that. and no, you would not get killed! how silly! they tell all kinds of lies in the newspaper and on TV. and they make you believe all this BS!!!! god....i hate the media!!! lol

Well first of all the word is BURKA (Veil) not Birka. In Pakistan if you vist without Burka (Viel). It will not be a big issue or matter. So no worries, its all Media who showed that things are worst but in ground realities its not. So you can vist no one execute you or punish you:)

I don't know about other countrys but here in Egypt you don't have to. Many women Muslim and non Muslim do not wear it here.
