Get your Gateway discs that came with your laptop and find the drivers disc. Insert into your drive and wait for the menu to come up install the sound driver from the menu. I do hope it is this simple, as restore packs differ greatly. If you're anywhere near Ayrshire, I could see if Hass could help you out with it.

If you are running XP try this:
Click start
right click my computer
left click properties
click the hardware tab
click device manager.
Find sound etc and click the + sign.
Right click everything to do with audio and update drivers - if it gives you the option to uninstall - uninstall and then scan for hardware changes. If the uninstall - doesn't reinstall then restart your computer and XP will auto detect your sound card.
If all else fails see if the headphone socket is working. If it is and you have no sound - it could be a hardware problem that can be fixed.

you can search for sound drivers on the internet for the model of your laptop and install it, if you do not have a recovery disc. If it still doesn't work there can be something wrong with your sound card. if so you would have to replace it.

Check for the sound card and see if there are problems there. Try to install new drivers for it.
