She has a problem and can not expect someone to solve it for her. She had a car problem, and she decided that that was an excuse not to go to work. She could have walked, tried taking a bus, or gotten a bicycle and gotten to her job. It would not have been easy, but she could have done it. Instead, from what you say, she did not work, and now is behind on her rent. She needs to take responsibility for herself, and either find a way to work, or a job closer to home.
If she just had the motor fail, and is already about to be evicted, that tells me that she was already behind on her rent! you are not going to get evicted if you are a couple of days behind on the rent!
She needs to get up, get out, and get to work, Life is hard, and certain choice that we make can make it harder. It sounds like she has made some poor choices in life, and now will have to work hard to improve things!!
I wish her luck!!

This is no answer to your friend's imediate answer, but as a single parent myself (and male) I didn't mind getting a very old LandRover which are easy to maintain, do not need authentic parts and take a lot to finally give up the Ghost, The only drawback(!) is that as the children got older they would hide below eye-level when they were in the car and saw any of their friends. Ah well!!

Again -- as long as you live in an Urban Environment -- she can use public transportation to get to her employment, get a ride with a co-worker (called ride-sharing), or ... in the case the employment is near where she lives -- walk to work.
There are some civic/church-based groups that will help her fix her car for discounted rates -- but those are rare and far between...

thats horrible, Im sorry.. the only thing I can think of is she can get a job at a car dealership (usually if you work there they give you a company car), she could try to rent a car until she gets another one, or she could try to win one.

i was a single parent with 2 small children. i had no car made minimum wadge, and had no help. not even from my family. we made it just fine. i walked every where, to work to doctors, shopping for christmas, you name it i did it, she needs to be more responsible if she has children, she needs to be strong and independent and pay her rent, and find ways, theres buses.
