When you tipped it either way it made a sound like "iiiioouuuuu" and you tipped it the other way and it made the reverse. Avid Merion makes reference to one on the Bo Selecta with 'Steve MacDonald had a farm, eeei iii iiiioooou uuuuooooi ooooooo'.

A giggle stick? I have a few of those. If you take the noise device out and blow it, it makes a good duck sound.
