well how old is the child, is the child in school or not, these are important factors when asking this question. if in school, holidays and summer time is the best time to send him/her, to the out of state parent, if the child is younger then other arrangements need to be made, maybe driving and meeting half way somewhere, you as the parents need to work this out, that child needs both parents in his/her life

my ex husband did not have vistation rights at all, but in your case, you should go to your justice dept or through court that you will agree for him to see the kids only on holidays, And have them back into your custody in a week, alot of traveling, but if the kids are too young See if you can go with them on trips and you get a hotel, and have them go with father, then you get a vacation out of it, But thank God My ex lives in penn i live in florida, And he had no money to come visit anyways and a restraining order on top , Well good luck
