No. The heads will have crashed into the disk damaging both. There are specialist firms who can recover the data, but they ain't cheap.

An external hard disk has two parts.

The hard disk which is the exact same as an internal hard disk
The interface, which is a bit of electronics, which allows it to be connected via USB.

If its the disk part thats broken, theres little chance of it working(specialised firm), but if its the interface, you can try reconnecting it, if thats what happened, or you can try replacing it.

But first open it up and connect the hard disk internally, or through the interface of another external hard disk, to check whether thats the part thats busted.

Or if you want you can just give it in to a service center.

there are 2 possible outcomes. as stated earlier it is just a normal hard drive inside a case. you best hope that the circuit that connects the hard drive to the usb socket on the outside is what is not working.. otherwise it'll be the Hard drive itself. in which case you're stuffed. because Hard drives are expensive to begin with , especially the fact it's 2TB. they are even more expensive to fix as when the are fixed they need spares from an identical working drive. you just better hope the disks and motor is ok. otherwise you can wave that massive collecton of Music and Movies goodby..

Yes, either the external caddies connection has been damaged or jarred loose. This can be rectified by (preferrably by an engineer) removing the external caddy and reconnecting the loose connection, or removing the drive and fitting it into your pc as a drive. If you are anywhere near ayrshire in scotland, I could get Hass to do it for you at lo-cost.

No, you cannot open a hard drive and expect it to live, internal or external, one speck of dust will cause a head crash. You can have a professional do it, but it can cost a lot.

I did the same thing to my Freecom USB drive; I ripped it open, fitted a new hard drive and glued the case back together. Works a treat; but I am bonkers.
