The navel, also called a bellybutton , is a scar on the abdomen, caused when the umbilical cord is removed from a newborn baby. All placental mammals have a navel.

The belly button, also called the umbilicus, was connected to the stomach of the baby. Once the umbilical chord is cut, the tube to the stomach gets reabsorbed by the body.

I don't have a belly button. When I first met my boyfriend I told him I din't have one and he asked if I was an alien. I told him yeah but actually I had gastric bypass surgery and that is why I don't have one. And I don't miss it at all.

You mean when your belly grows? It just stretches out and sometimes will pop out to an outie.

Mine is ridiculously deep so it didn't pop, but I did rediscover my bellybutton mole that I hadn't seen since I was a kid...

this webpage has a picture of how the umbilical cord works with your baby's circulation.... After birth.. and how we are as adults, all the connections become ligaments for support.
Hope it helps. I love pictures vs. a long description.
