I took my daughter in Miami for a "so called" audition for major TV/modeling relating to Disney and Nickelodeon. We attended a presentation where this tallent scouts , one of them from California explained the incredible jump into the "celebrity life stile our families could access if our kids ended up selected for the casting. The kids did a camera test, I was told in particular that my daughter looked very interesting for print work and possible for starting couchig training in singing ( she never sang to them). What sounded fishy for me was the very intense remarkes they made as of making hte kids earn 15 grands a week, suddenly driving a hummer and moving to a mansion in beverly hills ( those were the promises, and of course that made the kids very interested) A brochure was given to us a s informative, there was a list of training and prices the least expensive was 2,000 for several weeks.... for more info type john robert powers in yahoo search...sounds like scam to me.

JRP is a SCAM. Legitimate talent/modeling agencies NEVER charge a fee. (Actors know they pay for their own classes.) Modeling agencies teach models how to walk. No fees charged, tthe reason is: When models book jobs, agency take their commission off the top!
John Robert Powers has not been reputable since the 1960s. It is a scam, that takes money from "starry-eyed," young girls and their parents, that the girls have no potential to EVER work as a model or actor. JRP is not a school to study acting. It is not a school you can put on an acting resume. Find a real acting school in your city for your daughter. Call the community colleges and professional theaters in your city and ask for recommendations on acting teachers and acting schools. STAY AWAY from JRP.
You can check their history at:bbb.org Better Business Bureau.
JRP survives, on the reputation of the original owner, John Robert Powers. In his day, he was the TOP modeling agency in New York City. His models were on the covers of EVERY fashion magazine. Mr. Powers is dead. I think JRP is a franchise and not taken seriously by anyone in the acting or fashion industry. Anyone with money can open a JRP franchise, with or without ethics!
John Robert Powers is NOT recognized for training actors or models. You cannot put JRP on a resume to be an actor. Get out while you can. Contact the: Better Business Bureau: to see if there is a complaint about them, in your city: bbb.org.
If you want your daughter to act call the universities and ask the theater dept. to recommend acting schools/teachers. The fashion industry is in NYC and Paris, not anywhere else in America. The acting and modeling jobs are HERE!

I took my daughter to an "audition" at a John Robert Powers Agency in the San Francisco area. The audition consisted of 2 parts 1) reading for a talent agent from Warner Bros. If he was interested then he would contact you separately and 2) whether or not you were accepted by the John Robert Powers agency for their "training course" which would run over $1000 for about 10weeks. Needless to say we didn't sign up for anything that would cost us money. We just did this for fun. I wouldn't call it a scam - just a business.

This question has been asked and answered numerous times in the past couple of weeks.
John Robert Powers is a scam, and has been known to be one for quite some time. I warn people away from it whenever possible...but, sadly, there are always enough impressionable wanna-be performers out there to keep these crooks afloat.
The bottom line for ALL would-be performers when dealing with talent agencies/management companies is (and has always been): if they ask for money UP FRONT, it's a scam, and you should run the other way. Fast.

If you want to become a better singer, improve your singing voice and are considering an online course I strongly recommend this site:
http://howtosing.toptips.org
I am big fan of this online singing course. You can watch a video more times until you can grasp each concept. Even if the program runs on a 10-day period, you can spend more or less, depending on your own pace. All the guides and tools included in this program are designed by professionals. This means you will learn transitions, changes and voice modification techniques like a pro! It comes with a plethora of exercises, allowing you to improve any aspect of your voice.
It definitely the best alternative to expensive lessons with vocal coaches. Try it and you'll see great results!

All of you are wrong. JRP only asks for money because they're a school, NOT AN AGENCY. I went for an interview in Philly.
1. You pay a fee of $20 to hold your spot
2. Then $297.11 and $60 a week for 10 weeks

JRP wants your money. They are not in business to help you and your kid make money. No. They want you to take their classes and workshops so they can teach your child to know how to make money - which probably less than 1% of the children they see end up doing. It's bad enough to take adavantage of adults who know no better - but when they bring kids into the mix - and build up their hopes of being on the Disney Channel - and living in a mansion with a pool - and then they tell them the only thing standing between them and this lifestyle is whether or not their parents will put out the money to sign them and have them trained - well that's just crappy if you ask me. It looked like mostly everybody who answer your question agreed that it was a scam. That makes me happy that it's getting to be a known fact about JRP. Hope your child finds another way to get into entertaining - and doesn't have to spend big bucks in order to have fun doing it!
