In my spare time I test antivirus an antispyware programs, to see if they perform as claimed, and to see if they contain embedded spyware, adware, virus or trojans in the program or the wizard installer used to guide you through the installation.

I use Windows XP Prof., an I found that webroot spy sweeper, caused alot of conflict with all of my running progams an also alot of false/positive. (As for rootkit protection, you can download a free rootkit from http://www.sophis.com )

In my computer I use what I think is the very best state of the art technology that is light years ahead of any program that is free or purchased. (They are out of prague).

http://www.avast.com They are 100% free and no embedded spyware or virus. You want to download their free home personal use. The corporate version is the same as the free version they just make corporate pay.

They will ask you for your email address, becasue they will send you a free key that is good for one year. After one year you will have to request another free key.

For this free program you will get daily automatic updates that usually come two or three times per day. There is a blue pop-up in the tray that will show you when each update is installed. Or if you have your pc on and you are away, turn on your speakers and you will hear a male voice say, "virus updates have been updated. Or if you open any webpage with embedded spyware, or a virus or trojan horse, the background scanner that runs always in the background is excellent. It will catch the virus in real time and destroy the virus before it can enter your system. Plus you get the pop-up and the voice telling you that "a virus has just been detected and destroyed".

Always open this program from the blue ball with an "a". As it works best this way.

Never had one virus in over nine years with this program.

My own personal opionion is far superior to webroot spy sweeper. (You never have any conflict with this program an anything that you have running on your system).

Only use one antivirus program, or you will have serious conflict with your system. You can use more then one antispyware, three or four if you wish without any conflict.

Always reboot after any virus is caught in destroyed.

I don't think Spybot Search & Destroy is not known to catch everything. Spy Sweeper on the other hand catches practically everything, even rootkits. As of right now Spy Sweeper catches 154,000+ types of spywares. I use it and I'm satisfied with its capability of removing all spyware/malware and such off my system when I run a scan.

Here's a review of the top ten spyware removal programs, Spy Sweeper ranking as number 1.
