Isn't Cosmology the study of the nature and structure of the universe?

Some people's religious beliefs include assumptions about the nature or origins of the cosmos. When observation contradicts belief, they are backed into an epistemological corner and have no choice but to fight. It's been going on since Copernicus, at least.

Cosmology has become a religious battlefield because it`s purpose is to explain what is explained in most sacred books like the Bible. If our cosmologists can ever find out what exactly happent, what caused the chain of events that we see today and why the world has today`s constants, forces and etc... This will completely discredit what the saint books say about the beginning. Scientists will have proven that God or some other all knowing entity hasn`t created the Universe but that the universe as we see it today was the only possbile chain of events.

It is a religious battlefield because it tries to explain what religion wants us to take for granted and true.
