Hi, you basically answered your own question, the song is John Mellencamp's "Our Country" which he wrote for the commercial. Mellencamp is the same guy who wrote a bunch of classic rock songs like "Hurts so good," "Jack and Diane" and "R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A."

I think it's "between a laugh and a tear" by john mellencamp (i know it's his voice just unsure of the exact song of his it is) The above mentioned song is on the Scarecrow album released somewhere between 1982 and 1985 that is the best advice i can offer at this time

I think that IS the name. It's by John Mellencamp formerly John Cougar Mellencamp.
