I installed a new brake light switch because the old one was not woking. When I removed the old switch the contact plate was popped out of its pivot point. I installed the new one, and the lights worked until I pressed the brakes hard( almost to the floor). I removed the new switdh to find the same problem as the old one had which I had just removed. The pedal assembly has minimal play in it but I don't think it is enough to cause this failure.

replace front and rear brake pads, reset your rear brakes after that by going in reverse about 5 miles an hour or so and tapping on your brakes, you will hear a clicking, that is the brake assembly in the back self-adjusting - bleed the brakes / all that will have the brakes coming on a-lot sooner and firmer - meaning your pedal wont be going that far
