In clothing-
1) the thing I have had the longest is a sheer, short-sleeve, white present top blouse that belonged to my grandmother, then my mother, then me
2) I have had it maybe 11 years, before that it belonged to my mother
3) It was obviously a gift
4) I kept it this long because it is cute, it has held up, and it sort of cool to have that little connection to them. (It is funny, because every time one of us had it it was in style)

A teddy bear that my Aunt gave me when I was 1 years old. I guess I kept it because it was the one thing my mom didn't throw up during one of her cleaning frenzies. I don't remember playing with it as a child, but it does look worn. It is a kool bear, 18" tall, reddish tan except for a beige chest and it even has a nubby tail. Glass eyes that have had to be sewn back on a few times and really cute ears. I have had it 56 years.

1. my christening gown.
2. I had my pictures taken in it when i was 2 weeks old and i will be 33 in 2 weeks, so.... almost 33 years
3. My (nanny) grandmother purchase it for me... she passed away in 1976
4.My mother had it for a long time. I received it when i moved out about 13 years ago. I always thought that i would have my child wear it when she was baptized. i have kept it as a reminder that i have been baptized, it is a security thing. My mom kept is as a memento of her mother and the last gift she gave to me.
Hope that this has helped

A pair of jeans. kept them for 20 years, wore them sometimes. Bought them in a "hippie store" downtown when I was 20. I had a lot of good memories associated with the jeans. I remembered many concerts I went to wearing them, and all the laughs I shared with my friends.
I also remember how numb my legs would get walking in the winter, peering down at the ground in the blustery could weather, before I got a car.

The longest item of clothing I've kept is a T-shirt from first grade (25 years ago). We colored a sheet of paper and that was converted into an iron-on transfer. I kept it because it was one of the first things that I helped create (that wasn't just a doodle on a piece of paper) and it is now fond and tangible memory of my childhood.

I have a silk scarf that is nearly fifty years old. I bought it as a Christmas present for my father all those years ago. I think it cost me about £5 ($8) then. When he died, my mother gave it to me and I wear it on special occasions, especially when I go home to Ireland. All the family still immediately recognise it. I keep it as it is still fashionable, comfortable and a wonderful memory of dad. I shall never get rid of it and hopefully my grandson will wear it in the future........

1. a navy blue cardigan
2. i've had it since i was probably 10 years old (so 6 years...)
3. my mom bought it for me when i had to go to a fancy event. its from a store called "friends" that went out of business. nowadays, at my age, i don't think its as fancy. i wear it a lot.
4. i kept it mostly because it was always in the back of my closet. out of sight, out of mind. my mom always wanted me to keep it "just in case" and i hated it up until about a month ago. now, it looks like something you would find at a flea market it's my favorite cardigan
i hope i helped :)
