The scariest film I have ever seen was a black and white film, made in the 60's, I think. I cant remember the name of the film, it was something like "The Haunting Of Hill House", I think.
That film did not just scare me, it terrified me. There was no gory hack and slash, it was all suggestion, eeriness of the filming, the graininess of the black and white, and the use of lighting and shadow.
Absolutely terrifying!!!

Betcha The Shining will be number 1, personally though nothing scares me more than Jaws, how sad is that lol
I'll watch it, though they go on too long don't you think? So I'll just watch the last hour.
Don't know how recent the films will be but the best modern horror I think is Creep.

Either Alien or Jaws will be number one. The list isn't just horror movies but scary movies. I saw both of these movies in the theater when I was a kid and both scared the you know what out of me! =)
