A hermaphrodite is not just a person, it could be a flower, a fish, any other kind of animal that has both female and male sex genitals, although in humans they cannot impregnate themselves.

The correct term these days is "intersexed", and yes, it's somebody who's born with sexual organs and characteristics of both sexes. Sometimes it's apparent - a baby is born with both a penis and a vagina for example. Sometimes it's not realized until later because the characteristics are internal, such as an intersexed boy who begins to develop breasts at puberty, or the intersexed girl who learns that she has testicles inside her. Generally speaking, intersexed people tent to identify with one gender or the other, and if they choose they go into surgery and treatment to make their bodies correlate with their identified gender. Sometimes, however, intersexed people identify as both male and female, and choose not to have surgery. Check my link for further information.
