This is something you will want to start discussing with your doctor but is something very individual. Lots of new moms add a bit of rice cereal to the babies bedtime bottle at only a couple of months to help them sleep better through the night so there is no right time for starting solids. Also each child will be different. My son was born in the month of February and that by that December at Christmas time he still would not touch any baby food with chunks in it. He spit the whole stuff out. My daughter on the other hand was born in the month of January and was eating baby food and people food by the time she was 6 months old and after about a month of baby food she wouldn't eat anything but table food so I gave her baby food away to someone who could use it. That thanksgiving she was eating a complete turkey dinner at my mothers. Remember she wasn't going to turn a year old till January so you can see how big the difference can be between babies.

I would start out with something like the cereal, watered down, about 5-6 months, then move on to something like apple sauce, and a thicker cereal blend and other fruits about 6-8 months,it will help baby sleep better and go longer periods without being hungry all the time, and veggies about 8-10 months, and the jarred meats about 12-14 months. Of course the pediatricians will tell you not to start baby food until 1 yr. of age, I think that is rediculous.

Six months of age or so - whenever they're not satisfied by 32 oz of formula and a couple of tablespoons of cereal a day.
You want to start with the green veggies first. They're kinda gross but if you start with the sweet stuff like fruit or carrots or sweet potatoes, you've got a snowball's chance of getting the child to eat the green veggies.
DO NOT introduce more than one new food a week - this way, if the child has a reaction to anything, you'll have an easier time of pinpointing what it's to. (Also try not to introduce new soaps or laundry detergent at the same time...)
Increase the texture of foods when the baby is ready - when they start picking stuff up on their own, give them a few Cheerios to play with... Kids like to pick up and put stuff in their own mouths.
Good luck!!!

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends starting baby food at 6 months. After you have given your baby rice cereal for at least 3-5 days followed by oatmeal for at least 3-5 days and barley cereal for at least 3-5 days (to make sure your baby doesn't have allergies) you can start on jar food. Green veggies then the other veggies and then fruit. Discuss it with the pediatrician and they will recommend which order to start the different kinds of food in.

Starting a baby on solid foods prior to 6 months increases their risk of developing allergies, diabetes and obesity.
The American Academy of Pediatrics says that baby should have nothing but breastmilk or formula for the first 6 months.
Personally, when they started solids I found that making my own food for them was very easy and much cheaper than buying jars of babyfood. (Example: jar of bananas for about .50 or a whole bunch of fresh ones for about .20!)

6 months. no earlier.
they offer a lot of jarred food for baby that I think is RIDICULOUS...
examples:
peach cobbler
macaroni and cheese
your baby just needs veggies and fruit. at around 8 months add meats. try EARTH'S BEST brand- organic with no preservatives.
good luck and healthy eating!
