Ideally, you would leave him with a relative or friend that you trust and come back every month. I'm sure it is allowed by the school, just a little concerned about his ability to learn in Thailand, even if they send the work.

Thailand is not an ideal playground for an 11 year old either, he will miss his friends and comfortable surroundings.

Glad I don't have your job. Going away for four months with four days' notice sounds tough.

If you are in England you need to get permission from the relevant Local Education Authority which you can contact via the school or through your local Council. You will need to assure them that his absence is justified and not just a glorified holiday and that you will ensure he completes appropriate course work during his absence.

Are you a single parent? If not, and your spouse is staying at home in America, I would leave him in school and not take him out. If you do take him, make sure you let the school know! They might get concerned if he just suddenly disappears. Also, you need to make sure that your son is about to continue working on his school.

Sure its ok, just make sure that he wont fall behind, actually, I can almost guarentee that they could get all his lesson plans together to be mailed or given to you before you leave.

I think it's a great idea for a 11year old to be able to see different cultures and lifestyles to be a more educated, traveled young person.

Have fun & good luck
