i watched on mythbusters that altering the position of the tailgate on a small pickup truck afffected gas mileage at 50mph by at most 5%.

the removal of a small obstruction like a roof rack might pose lesser benefit, unless i underestimate its size...

also aerodynamic savings only materialise at high speeds. true gas mileage overall might only increase a couple percentage points.

The roof racks create drag and therefore more power is required to keep the car moving along at speed. It would probably create more drag than a rear wing and they can cause a car to use up to ten percent more fuel i saw that on tele so it has to be true hasnt it ?
