It depends on the type of roof you have but as a rule of thumb White or reflective coatings Will repel the heat and ultra violet rays of the sun Thus keeping the roof cooler. If you have an attic or open space between the roof and ceiling make sure you have plenty of ventilation that allows the hot air to convect up and out and cooler air in.

Try Cool Coat it is a white reflective latex coating; it also seals leaks. Some hardware stores carry it, you can purchase by the gallon or five gallon containers, depending on how many square feet you'll need. I've used it & it works great
