Get a glass jar and put a few layers of construction paper around the inside of the jar (against the glass). Then fill inside the paper with potting soil to hold the paper against the glass. Then push your lima bean between the glass and the paper so you can see it. Then water the soil until it's damp. You'll see when the lima bean sprouts and you can watch it grow. Keep the light about one foot from the plant once it starts growing. And don't let water accumulate in the bottom of the jar. You'll be able to see it at the bottom of the jar if there's too much water.

When it gets big enough you can take it out of the jar and put it in a pot.
