Homeward Bound. It has two dogs a cat and I believe two kids. The family has to leave the pets with some friends as they move (if I remember right). The two dogs and the cat go searching for the family and get into all kinds of stuff along the way. It is one of my daughters favorite movies

If you're looking for something different try "A Boy and his Dog" featuring Don Johnson and Jason Robards. It's a 1975 Sci-Fi release based on a Harlan Ellison short story about a nomad in the post-apocalyptic world who travels the wasteland with a telepathic dog. The dog guides Johnson's character in his search for food, shelter, and (ahem!) female companionship...

This one's not for the kiddies...but it IS funny, in a male-adolescent, more-hormones-than-brains sort of way...
