I've seen ones with five...I need a basic bass guitar as a "starter" guitar...maybe $200 or less.

4 strings. A very good beginner guitar is the Fender Squire P-Bass.

As for the strings, you can find anything from 4 to even 12. 4 and 5 are the most common, the higher strings are usually custom made for pros.

Most have four, but a five string bass has the same string tunings as the four string bass, except it has one extra string also. I'd start with a 4 string...they're easier to get used to playing.

any base i have seen only had 4 strings. try a guitar shop Or the want adds in the paper.

4 strings. you can get one 2nd hand at any music store. They usually have good deals on resales. I just picked one up with an amp for 275.
