One of the reasons is that his works have been regarded as the great literary contribution to mankind, not for English people or those who read English only. Moreover, from his plays, you can find some simple, apt phrases or sentences you can use and wonder how he could write like that. In essence, he should have been a professor at Oxford or Cambridge instead of an ordinary man.

A quote as an example (Romeo and Juliet):
Parting is such sweet sorrow.

Just think about it, he's a genius.

Because the people in charge were taught that his works are timeless and they bought into that crap, now they are perpetuating the myth.

If it were true, people would buy Shakespeare in the book store instead of only getting it in school. Have you ever met anyone who bought shakespeare for personal reading? Do you ever see anyone reading shakespeare on a plane or train or bus.

Lets get over this nonsense.

Because his plays examine basic human nature: greed, love, jealousy, hate, loyalty. The same things we discuss about our leaders, neighbors, and celebrities today.

His work is not the easiest to analyze due to the version of English, but when you get it, it's great.

To help me analyze "Hamlet" I got the video version. It came out about 10 years ago, but it helps to see the story.
