***COMING FROM A WOMAN....THIS WILL SOUND WEIRD***
Yes, gender inequality does still exist and to be honest with you, probably always will for some women....
Yes men are supposed to be physically "stronger" but only in upper body strength. Women are stonger in the lower body and also have a higher pain tolerance. So really, I would say that would make us pretty equal in that aspect.
Many women tend to whine that they want equal rights but really they don't. They don't realize what they are really asking for. Only the true feminists will understand this. For example....To put it into a barbaric aspect......If a woman punches a man in the face....most women expect the man not to hit back..because..SHE IS A WOMAN...I say so what.....If a woman can hit a man...why can't a man hit back? We want equal rights...don't we?
As for wages...There are plenty of successful women out there that are making more money than men do. People say that men make 15% more than women at the same job...But that factor doesn't exist at ALL JOBS..... And some women need to understand that the reason they may be passed up for promotion comes right down to qualifications, and experience, education. Most just think they were passed up because they wear a skirt!! Not always the case.
If women want equality, they need to work toward it. Until that time, then yes, there will be inequality...for some. But those who are willing to work for it, will find themselves equal to there male counterparts, despite all the physical differences.
I for one will not allow myself to be inferior to a man. Yes there are things that they can do, that I "can't" but I never tried either. Also, for example......If women were so PHYSICALLY inferior, why is it that in many countries they are able to join the military. It is because, we are capable.......Just many women, don't see that.

I just have to answer to this one, because so many answerers seem to mix up concepts of "difference" and "inequality". Yes, it is true that men and women are different (pure physical reasons), and in the foreseeable future this will stay the same. And this is ok; there are jobs and tasks that an average representative of one gender just does better than an average person of the other gender. When serious people discuss about women's rights and how inequalities should be removed, these are NOT the things they are talking about. Nobody (sane) is trying to make men give birth and force more women to be truck drivers, even if they don't want to.
When we talk about inequalities, we don't mean these natural differences between sexes. We are talking about a situation where a man and a woman have same qualifications, are just as well educated, have the same amount of experience, do the same job with exactly the same quality, but still get paid different amounts of money. That's inequality when sex is the only reason to be paid less, to not get a job or promotion or to be denied some other privilege. And that inequality still exists in all countries. That is what those studies about differences in wages are telling us; in those studies it has been taken into account that different works and tasks get paid different amounts of money. But still those studies show that women get paid less, even if (now I repeat myself but that seems to be necessary) they are just as well educated, have the same amount of experience and do the same job with exactly the same quality. This inequality still exists, but things are moving into better direction all the time. For an example about inequities in average pay you can check for example wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Income_disparity .
As a comment for that woman punching a man -scene in the answer above: If a woman has the same capability to hurt me with a punch as I have to hurt her, then I will not hold back if she hits me. Fortunately that kind of situation seems highly unlikely; this is again one of those "differences" thingies. Now don't get me wrong here, I have sparred with a woman who was more skilled than me. She probably could have hurt me badly, but she didn't. Not because I was of opposite gender, but because she just had the responsibility brought by superiority in skill.

I think gender inequalities still exist, and I'm definate that they always will. There are unarguable, biological differences between males and females...I'm not just referring to anatomy. Hormones are secreted in different amounts at different times, facial and skeletal structure differs, brain functions are comparable - but not the same, emotions vary, etc. Due to these inevitable differences between genders, we will always have inequalities in areas where males biologically dominate, but also where women dominate.
Let's look at the animal kingdom for an example of "female domination" in a given area. Mate choice. ... why are males birds so colorful? Male fish? Why do male deer have beautiful ornamental antlers? The answer to these questions is simple: To get the chicks. Mate choice is important among animals; this being said, let's remember that humans are animals. Males compete to win a female...pass on genes. This is the underlying reason for male-male competition. Let's keep this in mind when we see men in the work place try to make more money than women...trying for the more advanced jobs.... There are thoughts that men with more money and more prestigious carreers are more attractive to women.
Is this why we see gender inequalities? Don't know, but seems like good reasoning....

I think that gender inequality is always going to be here, and it isn't a bad thing. I mean, we're not as physically strong as guys, if you take the average. Our genes are different. I don't mind having easier fitness tests, because I know that I am not as strong as the guys. Gender inequality isn't something to complain about, especially since I really don't want to get weird looks for wearing girly clothes. And on the pregnancy issue, the joys of having a child outweigh the burdens. I think that we are lucky that we can have children. Guys have tender crotches, and girls have tender stomachs. It really isn't as big a problem as people think. I am quite glad that I don't have certain parts of the male anatomy.

Gender inequality still exists for women. For example. Guys doing the same work as female workers get higher compensation than women. Women as head of households are not readily accepted. Most people still prefer going to male doctors vs female drs. People are apprehensive towards flying on a plane with a female pilot at the helm. This field is scarce for women. The same goes for scientists.

Yes it still exists. Women are still paid less for the same work. There are not as many opportunities in politics as for men. If a woman were elected President it would help. Progress is being made to slowly.

Of course it still exist. Look at the pay scale. Women are still being paid less the men and they work the same jobs. Women hold higher ranking positions in the work place and I still see people running to the man in the room(who isn't in charge) for assistant. In a few places women are passed over for promotions because they so called lack certain qualities only a man has. I'm still trying to figure that one out.

Yes it does. In countries with strict religious regulations about women, like Afghanistan. ANywhere in the world where people are not well educated there is inequality. The Catholic church keeps women inequal from men.
