Nigeria is extremely rich it can afford better planes than the ones Aeroflot sell to them. Nigeria like 99% of African countries is a corrupt hole. The wealth is in the North - which is full of Hausa People. If you check the list of wealthy Nigerians you will see their riches go to billions - but this is only to individuals They send their children to private boarding schools in UK and buy houses in Chelsea Hampstead etc. They keep their money in swiss banks and pay mercenaries from eastern europe to murder and maime those who get in their way. Nigerians also use other African countries to transport drugs. They now buy other african passports to get into the UK bcs UK dissallows anyone under the age of 30yrs from getting a visa. Thats how bad it is
So they are a rich country with wealth in the hands of a few that couldnt give a **** about their fellow nigerians ...but wait ...i t hink i have described the attitude of most africans who pillage and burn their own villages and people for personal gain anyway

I tell you something Nigeria is a VERY rich country it is NOT aided it is unfortunately totally corrupt .The planes are the worst in the world they buy the planes that AEROFLOT (Russian Airline not exactly known for their safety) discard ! As far as I am concerned the people ( government officials ) got some of their own medicine ! Planes that crash with ordinary mortals in them are not even mentioned in the news !

Like alot of African nations, its the despicable leaders who are bleeding their countries dry, its seems the credo of these despots is simple; steal what you can, while you can and as much as you can and f*ck everybody else. Their tried and true method is equally simple, starve the population into submission while using violence & brute force to keep them that way, as always fear is a great pursuader. What can be done about it, easy, rather than giving aid in the form of cash or sellable commodities, make sure any aid is in the form of usable (food, water, medicine etc..) goods and that it be disributed by non government agencies such as RedCross, otherwise it will be withheld. Set strong conditions and insist on complience. Sounds easy, but implemtation can only be upheld if all parties concerned fully comlpy.

I'm sure most of the peple of Nigeria are poor.
Its no different over here. We have families living in Bed and Breakfast because they couldn't pay their mortgage, and people living on the breadline through low wages and unemployment, yet the Government always has money to burn. John Prescott is OK with his Two Jags.
You don't really think any Government GIVES a damn for its people do you?

My brother works in Nigeria. He refuses to fly in Nigerian planes. They're known to be death traps.
He's a chef but has to go everywhere with an armed guard. It's a horrendously dangerous country.

It depends on whether the planes are owend by the government or a company i suppose? The government spend all the aid on all sorts of stuff though, such as arms and nice cras an houses for themselves. Wouldn't suprise me!

Whoever said that Nigeria was poor?
They are one of the richest nations in the region and have huge Oil reserves. Just because they treat there own people like S.HIT does not mean they are poor.

There are planes which are serviced and others which are not, i think it will come to light that this one was lacking in something in its maintenance program, in Erope unless the have a certificate they will not allow them to use the airfields , Africa in certain nations if it as wings they expect it to fly regardless
