When I was handing out candy a year or 2 ago, I was handing out candy to trick-or-treaters. These boys came to my door, grabbed my bowl and dumped all the candy into their bags. I was sad, because there was no candy left for me to enjoy that night. They had masks on, so I couldn't see who they were.

This year, I am thinking of giving out little packets of raisins or crackers and keeping the real candy for myself. What do you think? Will this be unfair to all of the good kids in my neighborhood that only took one or two pieces?

I think you should give candy not crackers, but as said keep the bowl away from the door. As for not having candy for youself,
when I hand out the candy I also munch while I'm waiting for more children. On top of that, I've noticed that there are less trick-or-treater each year in my area, so I always have extra, but you can alway just put some a side for yourself.

Yeah, some sneaky teens will masquerade as younger kids, just to get the treats. What those kids did to you was inexcusable. However, I think packets of raisins or crackers make fine treats, and the moms will appreciate that more than sugary candy. If you feel you're cheating the neighborhood kids, you can still give them candy -- that is, if you can tell who they are with their costumes on. Have fun!

Get enough candy for the both of you if having candy for yourself is the issue.

Parents will appreciate you handing out healthy snacks, but to the delight of the children, most folks will be handing out sugar sweets. I'm betting your healthy snacks will be pushed to the side and ignored. Thus, they would be a waste of your money.

Also, I used to LOVE getting the little paper sacks with goodies from people. So I make them each year. I put spare change in them also. Not anything much, just a nickle and some pennies, but what a great experience for the children.

I like being the house that folks look forward to coming to! I love all the costumes.

candy to little kids only as for it is a priority, if there are teens then you give the crackers and raisins because that has happened to me alot and always keep a phone near you so this way you can pretend to call the cops the next time it happens. If there are some teenagers that are good and always go to your house then you can give them candy

Give the good stuff to the cute little kids who are with their parents.

Give stuff like popcorn balls, apples, ect to the teenagers. Why? Because teens should not be trick-or-treating.

As for you wanting candy, just set some of the good stuff aside the day before, so you can enjoy it when the trick-or-treating is over.

And remember to keep the bowl inside the house. ;)

It is sad that bigger kids can be greedy and so bold as to take all the candy. However, you might want to dole out the candy as opposed to having the kids take it themselves. This might prevent the bold brats from emptying the whole bowl into their bags. Also, if you are so interested in having candy for yourself, why not just buy some for yourself?

keep the bowl of candy inside your house, on a table or something inside the door. when kids show up pull out one piece for each of them. i doubt teenagers will actually enter your house just to steal your candy.
