I had a sweep!!! Basically your midwife pkaces 3 fingers inside you and has a runage it is supposed to stimulate nto labour. It didnt really do much for me but it might help. It doesnt hurt just embarrasung but trust me if it gets baby out you wont be bothered!!!

I don't understand why they are trying to hurry things up when you are only two days late. My first baby came 5 days after the supposed due date, quite on his own and I had a great labour. I am really glad no one tried to hurry it up.
Are you particularly uncomfortable or in pain? Normally you are told that you can expect to deliver from 2 weeks before until 2 weeks after your due date. Three days seems awfully early unless there is some other reason - I would ask them why they are so eager to do it.

I had a sweep when I was 10 days overdue with my 2nd.

The midwife came round to my house at 10am and had me lay down on my bed. It was just like an internal. She put her fingers inside and just sweeped them around to see if I was dilated. I think it did hurt, but nothing compared to giving birth.

I was 2cm dilated, and was contracting within 6 hours of the sweep.

Hope that helps.

May I wish you a pain free labour ;-)

Best of luck.

I had a sweep when 10days over, it was uncomfortable, midwife said could be a couple of drops of blood, when I stood up 5mins later I panicked as i was bleeding much heavier than thought, was told okay, this got lighter but lasted several days baby was fine. Sweep didn't work ended up being induced 5 days later. (2 days over due date isn't long)

they will put a finger up and try to get it up the opening in your cervix and 'sweep' around the membranes that protects the baby. I had one done, it is uncomfortable, but does not hurt but it doesnt always work as the cervix can sometimes be in a hard position to get at. I didnt work for me but I know people whos waters have broken on the way home from having it done !!

I had a sweep with both my kids, it did not hurt at all!! It stimulated my labour and both my kids were born a few days after the sweep. It is more embarressing and those who are saying it hurt obviously had a drugged up labour!

Where they strip your membranes, It really hurts, and it works okey, I didn't see fast results from it, but I am sure that it helped to get the process going!! Have sex, go on a bumpy road, have your husband or whoever ,yourself even play with your nipples, that really helps getting those contractions going,I had my husband take me on a motorcycle ride, Good LUck!

Oh god, its horrible, they put the fingers in and turn them around, and let me tell you IT REALLY HURTS, or it did me anyway. It didn't work either.

Sorry if I have scared you, but everyone is different and it may be okay for you, but my baby was face up and a sweep just didn't work.

All the best.
