I have a laptop with built-in wireless. My apartment complex has a wireless network set up for the residents. But I'm not sure exactly how the router is set up or anything. I was using the network fine as usual on two days ago and then when I tried to use it the next day it said "limited or no connectivity". I disconnected and reconnected, restarted and still the same problem occurred. It said the problem occurred because the network did not assign a network address to the computer. I tried to repair it but it said it could not renew my IP address. I also tried to connect to another network and the same thing happened which leads me to believe that the problem is with my computer and not the network.

The words "limited or no connectivity" almost always refers to a weak signal. Since your apartment complex provides wifi access, the network range may be out of your reach. This is due to the cement walls that block the signal or any other obstacles that may be blocking the signal. The strength of the built-in wireless card also plays a factor. Since it is built-in, the range is shorter.

The message could also refer to a network conflict. But since you described your laptop as having a built-in wireless capability, it most likely has something to do with signal strength and range. There is absolutely nothing wrong with your laptop. A problem like this occurs all the time.

A remedy that you could consider would be to purchase a separate wifi card and see if that helps. Or contact the person in charge of the network in your apartment to see why you are not able to connect.

The simplest thing to do is to turn off, and then back on you laptop. If that doesnt work go into your network connections -> wireless connections-> and then right click and hit repair. If that doesnt work call your office and ask them to restart the router. My buddy and i share a wireless network since we live next to each other and anytime that happens we reboot the router and the problem is fixed.

this will work :
> right click on wireless networking connection > properties > under general tab, at the bottom > uncheck the box that says" notify me when this connection is limited or no connectivity " > OK.. then close all windows...

this is an issue with the XP service pack 2 when you downloaded it..

This is commonly due to wrong encryption parameters. Check with the router administrator to get proper encryption settings.

It might not be your computer at all. Maybe the people who are in charge of the router have moved it or something. you might not be in range of the router. try moving around the building and try to get a better signal.
