my 9yr old son is having problems doing some product and sum numeracy questions and it is so long since I went to school I haven't got a clue, can anyone help with a brief explanation how to do them please?

Product is the fancy term for 'multiply' and sum is the fancy term for 'add up'.

Product of 4 and 5, = 20
Sum of 4 and 5 =9

Get him adding up pennies - the sum of is the answer.
product is mulitiplication or multiple addition 2 + 2 + 2 = 6 is the same as 2 X3 = 6

Your best course of action would be to approach your son's teacher. They would be delighted that you're sufficiently interested in ways to improve your child's numeracy skills.
Make an appointment straight away - teachers arn't dragons (well not all!!)
