The do charity work.

There's not much secrecy to it, actually. If you are in London you can go to the Mason's Museum, which is in Covent Garden, and have a look round and ask questions.

They are very pleasant.

Contact a local Masonic Lodge. (Yahoo search for your area.)

This has been a touchy subject for me. I have known Masons and have heard of books written about them without their consent. The information that you aquire should be from the Masons themselves. So call a Lodge and ask to speak with them or meet one of them.
