the 18th fret on my g-string, doesnt work. It gives the sound when you put on new strings but the bridge isnt high enough so the strings are touching the fret board. But the 17th and 19th fret work fine. ( I know work is the wrong word but its the best thing i can use to describe it) Also there appears to be a little "cut" in the fret itself, and my g-string is bent ever so slightly at that point. The "cut" looks like the grooves in the nut just a lot smaller. Would changing strings fix this or is the fret basically busted?

It's just the 18th fret on my g-string, everything other fret sounds fine.

If the other strings don't buzz at the 18th fret I think it's safe to says the "cut/groove" is the problem. If you have adjusted the truss rod properly for the right amount of relief fret buzz shouldn't be a problem (unless of course you set the string action really low). Take it to a good tech to get the right diagnosis. If needed, replacing the fret shouldn't be too expensive. Good luck!

If you play regularly, you should be changing your strings once a month. Sounds like the fret board is a little warped. I would take it to a music store to see if they can fix it for you before you ditch it. I am pretty sure they can replace the fret divider.

if the fret has a groove in it you have to get it refretted at a guitar shop, if they do repairs, or just stay away from the 18th fret on your g sting, good luck with your problem

I think the fret has come up. Take it to a guitar tech to have it tapped back down.
