Probably a better question is - should Barry Bonds try to resign with San Francisco? That answer is yes, mostly because it's hard to see other teams taking a chance on a player who is so reviled in almost all corners of the baseball world with the exception of San Francisco, where he was popular before he became reviled. Elsewhere, it's unlikely that other GMs would make a move to sign an aging, broken player who people don't like.

The Giants have a catch-22 going on. They need to get younger, more agile players, and youth is something that hasn't been associated with Bonds in about a decade. If they bring Bonds back they're probably going to demand that he earn much less considering that his body isn't exactly holding up really well. The flip side is that the Giants absolutely are going to want him in San Francisco if he ultimately breaks Aaron's record. There's an upside and a downside to letting him go, and also to signing him.

Ultimately, I think the Giants probably should resign him. Bonds will likely find that there is little interest outside of San Francisco, and that will play into the Giants hands in keeping his salary down. That will allow Bruce Bochy more leeway with how often Bonds plays, too.

well it depends on what direction they wanna go i if they wanna rebuild then they probably won't resaign him but if they wanna win a championship then they probably will bring him back and add to their payroll the one good reason to bring bonds back is because they will sell tickets as the fans would want to see bonds get the alltime homerun record and plus with bonds there more free agents would be likely to want to come and be a part of history with bonds and to try to win a championship

Having seen him play left field this year, I would have to say that he is ready to be a full time DH. Now what American League team would be willing to overpay an aging ex-steroid user to take advantage of his ability to hit home runs into the short right field porch?
Hint: They already have Balco boys Sheffield and Giambi.

The Giants don't have to, Bonds is filing for free-agency. So, the question now is, will any MLB team sign Bonds?

NO, The Giants dont need him, hes a selfish overpaid, steroid abusing, injury prone, has been superstar. Hes not worth the money that he wants, and his knees are too worn out to play any more, if Bonds wants to play somewhere it should be in the AL where he can DH, and try to break the homerun record(which he doesnt deserve)
