You will still need to apply for and be granted permanent residency in order to do this. You will need the proper documentation in order to rent a place to live, get utilities, and health care will also be a consideration, as you will probably not qualify for any insurance programs, and will have to pay for medical expenses as you go. There are some programs for reduced fees, but even so, for the uninsured in the US, medical care is a huge issue. Since you have a foreign pension, you would not qualify for the health care insurance most retired people from and in the US do.

You might also want to consider Canada, since once you are granted permanent residency status there, you also qualify for their national health care. Other laws in regards to needing proper documentation for rentals, utilities, and such are similar to the US.

depends on how much your pension is. Some people can live comfortably, others cannot.

Research the cost of living in the area you wish to live in, then figure out if you will have enough. Many people in America cannot live on what they have for income, whether they work or live on a pension.
