I'm not so sure the soap is a good idea, but accumulating the water that runs while you're waiting for the shower to get hot (and similar wasteful situations) makes a ton of sense. It's a hassle, and I'm not sure the money savings is significant, but it protects a valuable and necessary resource - drinking water.

I'd look up whether or not the soap from these sources is dangerous. I'm surprised it doesn't kill the plants, but if she's using biodegrable products it might be safe.

Contact the ag department at University of California, Davis. They will know.

Perhaps if it is a bad idea, you can share that with your roommate.

Yeah, bipolar people in manic phases due very obsessive and strange things.

There's nothing wrong with using grey water to water plants. Detergents contain phosphates which are good for plants. The water is completely processed by the plant and poses no health hazard.
More people should do this in their gardens to conserve water.

Maybe she knows more about conservation than the average person. She certainly sounds intelligent.

My granny did just that (besides also talking to her plants...), and she ate her produce (so did I !) , and she died at the blessed age of 96.
And to be honest, I also sometimes do that, but only kitchen sink waste water, and my veggies look (and taste) excellent.

Huh? That is going a bit far. No I wouldn't eat anything from them either! Probably doesn't affect the fruit, but still, that just sounds gross!
