why is this sentece correct?

The sentence is not correct, it should perhaps say
Tim's father is worried about passing his maths class

There should be an apostrophe in Tims (Tim's) and it should read:

Tim's father is worried about his passing of math class.

Right? I think so.

Are you asking why it's correct or why it is incorrect?

There certainly is at least one thing that is incorrect about it, the missing apostrophe in the possessive "Tim's". The other thing that could be questionable is that "his" doesn't have a clear antecedent; it could refer to either the father or the son.

You need an apostrophe in Tims ... should be Tim's

Otherwise it's correct.

Probably means that his math class is passing him.
